Easy Ways to Determine Your Skin's Undertone

Knowing what your skin's undertone is can be very beneficial in the final outcome of your makeup. It can make all the difference between makeup looking "ehh/blah" or makeup looking "WOW". The more knowledgeable you are about your skin's undertone, the easier it is when it comes to buying things such as foundation. Which is a task most women dread worse than a trip to the dentist.

Undertones can be broken down into 3 main categories: Cool, Warm, and Neutral. Some companies can use Olive as a fourth undertone also. For now lets keep it simple and focus on just the three main tones, as so not to give ourselves more of a migraine.

Cool - Pink, red, or blueish undertones
Warm - Yellow or golden undertones
Neutral - A mix of both cool and warm undertones

Cool undertone ladies tend to look best in jewel tones like emeralds, cobalt blues, etc.
Warm undertone ladies tend to look best in earthy tones like golds, bronzes, peaches, etc.
Neutral undertone ladies tend to look best in both. (Lucky ones!)

To test which undertone you are try some of these tests:

The Vein Test - Look at the underside of your forearm where its the lightest and look at your veins.
➤Blue to blue purple veins mean you have cool undertones.
➤Green, yellow, or olive veins means you have warm undertones.
➤If you can't tell one specific shade and are a mix of the above colors, then you have neutral undertones.

The White Test - Grab a white towel, white shirt, and make sure you have a clean makeup free face. Wrap your hair in the towel like if you just washed it. Wear a white shirt. Make sure the lighting is as natural as possible and try to avoid doing this in fluorescent lights since they can cast a greenish tint. (That would ruin the results)
➤Blue tone to the skin means you have cool undertones.
➤Yellow tone to the skin means you have warm undertones.
➤A mix of both colors means you are neutral. (Note*:If you have Rosacea, you may be neutral.)

The Jewelry Test - Grab a piece of gold jewelry and a piece of silver jewelry. Put each next to your skin.
➤Silver looks better? You have cool undertones.
➤Gold looks better? You have warm undertones.
➤Both look awesome? You have neutral undertones.

If after these test you are still stuck, fear not! Make an appointment with your local stylist/beauty counter and have them determine your skin's undertone for you. Hope this information was helpful!
