Dermalogica HydraBlur Primer - My New Love

My Spa Manager gave me a sample of the new Dermalogica HydraBlur Primer to try since she knows besides being an Esthetician I also am a MUA. Let me tell you how in love I am! This primer is amazing!!!! I have used it at least twice so far and each time I was told I looked "airbrushed and perfect". Ummm excuse me? Perfect?! Yyyaaasss honey yyaaass! I immediately bought the full size for myself and one for my kit. This is without a doubt my new go to primer for everyone! Before I go on gushing about my new love, here is some of the info from their site.....

"Lightweight, non-greasy primer minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, mattifies against oily shine and imparts a silky, luminous finish to skin. H2ORelease™ Complex and Abyssinian Oil help provide intense, sustained-release moisturization that locks in optimum hydration levels. A microencapsulated tint releases upon application to provide neutral coverage while Whu-Zhu-Yu Fruit Extract enhances skin radiance. Naturally-astringent Mushroom Extract reduces pore size and appearance. Formulated without artificial fragrances, colors or parabens."

  • Intensely hydrates and smoothes skin.
  • Refines pores and mattifies oily shine.
  • Provides light, neutral coverage and lasting make-up wear."

I swear everything they claim is true! I have combo skin so I usually have to use 2 primers. With this it worked wonderful in both my oily t-zone and my dry cheeks and chin. The fact that it blurs the look of fine lines and wrinkles means I can use this on my mature clients as well. Basically everyone can use and benefit from this primer. Not one time did my skin feel dry, caked on, greasy, or congested. If you're not familiar with Dermalogica they are first and foremost a skin care line. What that says to me is that whatever they come out with is going to work with skin care at the forefront. As you all know I am crazy about my skin (it is how I make money after all), so I look for quality products. This, my loves, is worth every penny! A little goes a long way so the 0.75 fl oz should last a good time. It is a little pricey at $46, but again I cannot stress enough just how amazing the quality is. Is it an investment? Sure, but it's one I believe is 100% worth it

Skin Care Q&A

As most of you may know I am a licensed Esthetician in the state of NJ. An Esthetician (AKA Aesthetician) is "a person with special training in administering facials, aromatherapy, hair and skin care, makeup, etc." as defined by This was the natural route for me to go considering I was already obsessed with skin care and a makeup artist. It's amazing how much you find out once you study. I have a lot of DIY's on here that I can say I now sort of disagree with. Misinformation and lack of knowledge is so big in the beauty world. I see things so differently now. I would never in a million years recommend anyone give someone else skin care advice if you haven't taken at least an Esthetician course.

So this leads me to my next thing. I know some people have asked me questions that you may be having as well. I get asked all kinds of advice all the time on my social media pages and also by my clients I see daily at the spa I work for. So here are my most recently asked questions. Also, this will now be a regular part of my blog so ask away! :)

Q: Reducing pore size after 30!?
A: First and foremost I want to address what I see as misleading products. Tons of makeup and skin care companies make products that they claim will make your pores go away, close up, etc. That is simply not true. Pores DO NOT have a muscle to open and close so therefore they cannot open and close with any magic potion, cold water, primer, etc. What you can do is rejuvenate the skin through treatments such as Microdermabrasion and mild chemical peels such as Glycolic or Salycylic. As well as maintain a healthy skin care regimen to prevent the pore being plugged with hardened oil and dirt/debris. In short, the way this works is Microdermabrasion gently peels the outermost layer of the skin, the suction that follows pulls the oils and dirt out, then the body begins to boost it's collagen production. That creates the look of more plump healthy looking skin that is tight and youthful in appearance, thus the pores look smaller. Mild chemical peels do a similar job. Salycylic peels are awesome if you have acne prone/clogged/congested skin because it acts like "Drano" for the pores getting in there deep and flushing out that "gunk". Either way you decide to go, make sure you use proper home aftercare and get a good regimen started that includes an SPF of at least 30. SPF is critical everyday but especially so after a peel or microderm because that new fresh skin is so susceptible to the elements!

Q: Why is it that every time I use face wash (and I have tried almost all of them), that I break out horribly, but if I don't wash my face and just rinse with only water, my face stays clean and clear?
A: I am willing to bet that the face washes you choose are not appropriate for your skin type. If you use something that is too harsh or to drying that can cause a reaction because you are stripping the necessary lipids from your skin. Ingredients that you are allergic to cause reactions also. Face washes that are too fragrant can also cause reactions. And the list goes on. As far as just washing with water and being ok, I cannot agree with that. The dirt, oil, and debris has got to be cleansed away. Not to mention a weekly or bi weekly exfoliation. I am willing to bet that under a lamp I could get tons of sebum and congestion out of your skin. Here is what I would recommend. Get to a good esthetician, find out your skin type, have her set you on a regimen of a good cleanser and moisturizer with spf to start with. Try that for 30-90 days and watch your skin look healthier, more clear, and more radiant than it ever has! :)

Q: Is it true tooth paste help with pimples/zits?
A: No no no and NNNOOOOOO!!! Toothpaste is made for your teeth not your face! This is so bad for you and let me tell you why. First of all the ingredients are not made to treat skin, they are made for your teeth! That's hard enamel! Not soft facial skin! Like take the whitening toothpastes for example, that stuff is strong and contains harsh chemicals. Do you want to one day wake up with a white spot where that pimple used to be? I don't think so. All these pastes will do is irritate the skin, cause redness, and maybe even make your skin peel which can lead to scarring, infections, etc. So no toothpaste should not be used on a pimple. Spot treating with a product that contains tea tree oil and/or salycylic acid is your best bet. I use Clarity Rx ClearZit On the Spot Blemish Control. It dries it up and treats the spot so I don't end up with scarring or anything weird.

There you have it loves. The beginning of my Skin Care and Makeup Q&A's that will soon follow. If you have any questions leave them in the comments below or send them to me on any of my social media....

Crease Blending Brushes I Bet You Never Heard Of Until Now!

When it comes to blending/crease brushes their are about 116516303065 choices! Most people use a Sigma E40  or a MAC 217 Brush. I can honestly say out of all the brushes I own I have never gotten my hands on these two. With that being said I cannot talk about how these may work BUT I can talk about two of my highly underrated and unspoken of blending brushes.

First is the Aveda Flax Sticks #6 Eye Contour Brush. It is densely packed, 100% taklon fiber, and blends like a dream! The density of the brush really packs the color into the crease area and prevents fallout. The tapered design helps to blend out any harsh edges. I mainly use this one when I want a ton of color in the crease, like for a dramatic look.

Part of this set: HERE

Second is from Crown Brush Studio line. It's called the C139 Tapered Crease Brush. This has got to be my favorite crease blending brush ever! It's tapered to a nice point that isn't small but not too thick either. The tip deposits color in the crease, while the tapered bristles blend out the shadows perfectly! I use this brush daily no matter what the look is that I am going for. Oh and this brush is currently on sale for $1.53!!!!! Hello??!!! It works and it's cheap! This is a no-brainer!

Get this: HERE

Hope this was helpful and if any of you use these brushes leave me a comment below letting me know your opinions.

H&M Launching It's Very Own Beauty Department Fall 2015!

So not only is H&M an amazing place to shop for fashion but now it's going to offer beauty products from its very own line! Ok so I'm a little skeptical when it comes to quality to be expected because truth be told I never bought anything beauty-wise from a clothing store. Drugstore is as far as I go but hey you never know, it could be amazing.

According to the press release the line will carry a full range of makeup, haircare, bodycare, and beauty tools. In total they say their will be over 700 makeup products available at launch time. These will replace existing beauty products at H&M and their will be two collections: a premium beauty line and a conscious range of Ecocert-approved sustainable products.

H&M is calling this "Fashion For The Face" and will include seasonal and limited edition products as well. This line promises to be inventive, creative, and colorful. I look forward to seeing what they have come up with. I'm both intrigued and curious.

Here are some images from the upcoming launch:

Are any of you thinking of giving this line a try when it launches? Which product are you most excited to get your hands on?

Guess Who's Back?! First Post In A Year! Let's Get Personal...

It's funny that after almost a year I am back to this blog. So much has changed and so many things have happened. But overall I am at a much happier and peaceful time in my life. I never got personal with my blog and it was always all about the beauty and the fashion but I think it's time I break that mold and delve deeper.

In the past year I have graduated Esthetician school, started working at an amazing salon in my state, and got 100 times better at how I do makeup. I have also faced one of the most heart-wrenching moments of my life. The birth and loss of my son at 20 weeks. It has been the most difficult thing I have ever faced in my life. But that brings me to today and why I am posting such a personal post. I want readers to be able to understand that the thing that has brought me back with a renewed passion is just that, Passion! I am passionate about the beauty world.

Everything from skincare to makeup makes me beyond happy. And with everything I have been through, I need that happiness in my life. I need you, my readers, to know and understand that when I make a post this time around, that I am giving you a piece of my heart. Something that truly makes me joyful. I want you to be a part of all this wonderfulness that makes me smile with glee. Material things should never make you feel like you NEED them, but rather you WANT them.

I'm not saying without makeup I am unhappy or hate myself or life, because that would just be ridiculous. It's just that beauty gives me this zen and umph for life! To see women look their best, feel their best, and just love themselves....Ahhh that just makes my heart soar!!! So look forward to a ton of new posts, reviews, blurbs and blahs from me!
