Dermalogica HydraBlur Primer - My New Love

My Spa Manager gave me a sample of the new Dermalogica HydraBlur Primer to try since she knows besides being an Esthetician I also am a MUA. Let me tell you how in love I am! This primer is amazing!!!! I have used it at least twice so far and each time I was told I looked "airbrushed and perfect". Ummm excuse me? Perfect?! Yyyaaasss honey yyaaass! I immediately bought the full size for myself and one for my kit. This is without a doubt my new go to primer for everyone! Before I go on gushing about my new love, here is some of the info from their site.....

"Lightweight, non-greasy primer minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, mattifies against oily shine and imparts a silky, luminous finish to skin. H2ORelease™ Complex and Abyssinian Oil help provide intense, sustained-release moisturization that locks in optimum hydration levels. A microencapsulated tint releases upon application to provide neutral coverage while Whu-Zhu-Yu Fruit Extract enhances skin radiance. Naturally-astringent Mushroom Extract reduces pore size and appearance. Formulated without artificial fragrances, colors or parabens."

  • Intensely hydrates and smoothes skin.
  • Refines pores and mattifies oily shine.
  • Provides light, neutral coverage and lasting make-up wear."

I swear everything they claim is true! I have combo skin so I usually have to use 2 primers. With this it worked wonderful in both my oily t-zone and my dry cheeks and chin. The fact that it blurs the look of fine lines and wrinkles means I can use this on my mature clients as well. Basically everyone can use and benefit from this primer. Not one time did my skin feel dry, caked on, greasy, or congested. If you're not familiar with Dermalogica they are first and foremost a skin care line. What that says to me is that whatever they come out with is going to work with skin care at the forefront. As you all know I am crazy about my skin (it is how I make money after all), so I look for quality products. This, my loves, is worth every penny! A little goes a long way so the 0.75 fl oz should last a good time. It is a little pricey at $46, but again I cannot stress enough just how amazing the quality is. Is it an investment? Sure, but it's one I believe is 100% worth it

Skin Care Q&A

As most of you may know I am a licensed Esthetician in the state of NJ. An Esthetician (AKA Aesthetician) is "a person with special training in administering facials, aromatherapy, hair and skin care, makeup, etc." as defined by This was the natural route for me to go considering I was already obsessed with skin care and a makeup artist. It's amazing how much you find out once you study. I have a lot of DIY's on here that I can say I now sort of disagree with. Misinformation and lack of knowledge is so big in the beauty world. I see things so differently now. I would never in a million years recommend anyone give someone else skin care advice if you haven't taken at least an Esthetician course.

So this leads me to my next thing. I know some people have asked me questions that you may be having as well. I get asked all kinds of advice all the time on my social media pages and also by my clients I see daily at the spa I work for. So here are my most recently asked questions. Also, this will now be a regular part of my blog so ask away! :)

Q: Reducing pore size after 30!?
A: First and foremost I want to address what I see as misleading products. Tons of makeup and skin care companies make products that they claim will make your pores go away, close up, etc. That is simply not true. Pores DO NOT have a muscle to open and close so therefore they cannot open and close with any magic potion, cold water, primer, etc. What you can do is rejuvenate the skin through treatments such as Microdermabrasion and mild chemical peels such as Glycolic or Salycylic. As well as maintain a healthy skin care regimen to prevent the pore being plugged with hardened oil and dirt/debris. In short, the way this works is Microdermabrasion gently peels the outermost layer of the skin, the suction that follows pulls the oils and dirt out, then the body begins to boost it's collagen production. That creates the look of more plump healthy looking skin that is tight and youthful in appearance, thus the pores look smaller. Mild chemical peels do a similar job. Salycylic peels are awesome if you have acne prone/clogged/congested skin because it acts like "Drano" for the pores getting in there deep and flushing out that "gunk". Either way you decide to go, make sure you use proper home aftercare and get a good regimen started that includes an SPF of at least 30. SPF is critical everyday but especially so after a peel or microderm because that new fresh skin is so susceptible to the elements!

Q: Why is it that every time I use face wash (and I have tried almost all of them), that I break out horribly, but if I don't wash my face and just rinse with only water, my face stays clean and clear?
A: I am willing to bet that the face washes you choose are not appropriate for your skin type. If you use something that is too harsh or to drying that can cause a reaction because you are stripping the necessary lipids from your skin. Ingredients that you are allergic to cause reactions also. Face washes that are too fragrant can also cause reactions. And the list goes on. As far as just washing with water and being ok, I cannot agree with that. The dirt, oil, and debris has got to be cleansed away. Not to mention a weekly or bi weekly exfoliation. I am willing to bet that under a lamp I could get tons of sebum and congestion out of your skin. Here is what I would recommend. Get to a good esthetician, find out your skin type, have her set you on a regimen of a good cleanser and moisturizer with spf to start with. Try that for 30-90 days and watch your skin look healthier, more clear, and more radiant than it ever has! :)

Q: Is it true tooth paste help with pimples/zits?
A: No no no and NNNOOOOOO!!! Toothpaste is made for your teeth not your face! This is so bad for you and let me tell you why. First of all the ingredients are not made to treat skin, they are made for your teeth! That's hard enamel! Not soft facial skin! Like take the whitening toothpastes for example, that stuff is strong and contains harsh chemicals. Do you want to one day wake up with a white spot where that pimple used to be? I don't think so. All these pastes will do is irritate the skin, cause redness, and maybe even make your skin peel which can lead to scarring, infections, etc. So no toothpaste should not be used on a pimple. Spot treating with a product that contains tea tree oil and/or salycylic acid is your best bet. I use Clarity Rx ClearZit On the Spot Blemish Control. It dries it up and treats the spot so I don't end up with scarring or anything weird.

There you have it loves. The beginning of my Skin Care and Makeup Q&A's that will soon follow. If you have any questions leave them in the comments below or send them to me on any of my social media....

Crease Blending Brushes I Bet You Never Heard Of Until Now!

When it comes to blending/crease brushes their are about 116516303065 choices! Most people use a Sigma E40  or a MAC 217 Brush. I can honestly say out of all the brushes I own I have never gotten my hands on these two. With that being said I cannot talk about how these may work BUT I can talk about two of my highly underrated and unspoken of blending brushes.

First is the Aveda Flax Sticks #6 Eye Contour Brush. It is densely packed, 100% taklon fiber, and blends like a dream! The density of the brush really packs the color into the crease area and prevents fallout. The tapered design helps to blend out any harsh edges. I mainly use this one when I want a ton of color in the crease, like for a dramatic look.

Part of this set: HERE

Second is from Crown Brush Studio line. It's called the C139 Tapered Crease Brush. This has got to be my favorite crease blending brush ever! It's tapered to a nice point that isn't small but not too thick either. The tip deposits color in the crease, while the tapered bristles blend out the shadows perfectly! I use this brush daily no matter what the look is that I am going for. Oh and this brush is currently on sale for $1.53!!!!! Hello??!!! It works and it's cheap! This is a no-brainer!

Get this: HERE

Hope this was helpful and if any of you use these brushes leave me a comment below letting me know your opinions.

H&M Launching It's Very Own Beauty Department Fall 2015!

So not only is H&M an amazing place to shop for fashion but now it's going to offer beauty products from its very own line! Ok so I'm a little skeptical when it comes to quality to be expected because truth be told I never bought anything beauty-wise from a clothing store. Drugstore is as far as I go but hey you never know, it could be amazing.

According to the press release the line will carry a full range of makeup, haircare, bodycare, and beauty tools. In total they say their will be over 700 makeup products available at launch time. These will replace existing beauty products at H&M and their will be two collections: a premium beauty line and a conscious range of Ecocert-approved sustainable products.

H&M is calling this "Fashion For The Face" and will include seasonal and limited edition products as well. This line promises to be inventive, creative, and colorful. I look forward to seeing what they have come up with. I'm both intrigued and curious.

Here are some images from the upcoming launch:

Are any of you thinking of giving this line a try when it launches? Which product are you most excited to get your hands on?

Angel Lee's April 2015 Hit List

Moisturizer - Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Refresher Gel-Cream $6.79
I have combination skin and as we get closer to the summer months my T-Zone gets very oily. This products gives me just enough hydration without that greasy feeling. Plus it's cheap!

Eye Cream - Daytime: BareMinerals Renew & Hydrate Eye Cream $32.00
Evening: Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream $70
The BareMinerals eye cream gives that extra boost of moisture my under eye area needs (I am 30 lol), without becoming too slippery and greasy. At night I give my under eye that extra TLC by using the Bobbi Brown extra repair eye cream. The Bobbi one is definitely heavy and a very little goes a long way! I have had a sample jar for almost a year and haven't even used half of it, so imagine how little you need. It helps me wake up with smooth and refreshed under eyes! Plus I suffer from terrible dark circles and I can say the Bobbi eye cream has helped alot!

Face Primer - Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer $36
I have been using this Primer for almost 3 years! It is the first primer I had ever tried and the one I still use daily. A little goes a long way and I focus most of the product where I have enlarged pores. It feels like you're rubbing silk on your skin. And every time I use it on a client they tell me the same.

Eye Primer - Urban Decay Primer Potion $20
MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Paint Pot in "Soft Ochre" $21
I suffer from the most oily lids ever! If I didn't use UD Primer Potion my eyeshadow and liner would be running down my face in less than 2 hours! I started using this primer about 2 years ago and it has been my Holy Grail since then. I also go over my lids with a little bit of Mac's Soft Ochre Paint Pot to create a smooth surface and lighten up the area a bit. Not only do I have dark circles under my eyes but I have terrible darkness on my lids and a little above my crease also.

Brows - Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in "Dark Brown" $21
NYX Cosmetics Control Freak Eyebrow Gel $6
Brow Wiz has been my normal go-to from the moment I got it! It's just creamy enough to go on smooth, but sets to an almost powder finish. Topping it off with the NYX Eyebrow Gel keeps them sharp and sexy all day long!

Eyeshadows - Makeup Geek Cosmetics $6+
In love with: "Peach Smoothie", "Cocoa Bear", "Creme Brulee", "Mango Tango", "Shimma Shimma", "Frappe", "Bitten", and "Cupcake". I use most of them daily! My all over shade to create a smooth base and make it easier to blend out my shadows is usually "Cream" from the Lorac Pro 1 palette $42
Makeup Geek eyeshadows are buttery, easy to blend, and super affordable! I know everyone compares these to MAC Cosmetics eyeshadows and they are 100% right.

Eyeliner - Gel Liner: Maybelline Lasting Drama by Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner in "Blackest Black" $10 Liquid Liner: Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner in "Black" $8 Pencil Liner: NYX Cosmetics Retractable Eye Liner in "Black" or "Brown" $4.50
Maybelline Gel Liner is just the smoothest, creamiest, and just gorgeous gel liner. Reminds me a lot of the Bobbi Brown gel liners, just way cheaper! The Maybelline Precise Liquid Liner is a pen-like liner with a felt tip. Tons of control and glides right on. I will say the very end of the tip can get dry quick so make sure to tilt it downward and hold it there for a minute to allow product to move to tip during use. NYX  Retractable Eye Liners are smooth and creamy but don't budge once they set. I am so in love with them. They glide right on and don't tug at the ever delicate eye area.

Mascara - Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! Mascara $24 with Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara $3
I love the Benefit They're Real Mascara for lengthening. It makes my lashes look a mile long and I love to go over that with Jordana's Extreme Volumizing Mascara for the amazing volume it gives! These two together are like a dream come true! On my lazy days I just use the Jordana alone and let me tell you, people always ask if I have falsies on. Huge thumbs up to Jordana on this mascara! It is a holy grail for me.

FoundationL'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Up to 24 Hr Demi-Matte Finish Foundation $13 set with L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Up to 16 Hr Matte Finish $13
L'Oreal Pro-Matte is a new foundation and I have been in love with it since I first purchased it last month. It is the most perfect coverage and dries demi-matte. Not to drying but not dewy either. I like to apply it with my fingers and then blend in with a damp beauty blender. I then set it with their Pro-Matte Foundation Powder and omg it doesn't budge all day! For those who are oily in the T-Zone like me just pop the foundation powder in your bag for touch ups on the go.

Under Eye Corrector and Concealer - NYX Cosmetics Full Coverage Concealer Jar in "Orange" $5 and depending on the day I use either MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Concealer $20 or Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer $32
To set the undereye I use MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Powder/Pressed $26
I have never in my life been able to cover my dark circles. That is, until I found my new holy grail corrector! NYX Full Coverage Concealer Jar in Orange is NOT a concealer like the name would suggest, it is a corrector. It has a smooth application and if you pat this baby in where u have darkness and top with your favorite concealer you will say bye bye to dark circles for good! I love to use the MAC Pro-Long Wear or the MUF Full Coverage Concealer because they are creamy to apply and set to a matte finish. Plus once set they do not budge! Even though they "self-set" I still love to go over them with MAC Powder in Light Plus for the highlight it gives and the extra staying power.

Bronzer & Contour - Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer in "Chocolate" $30 and to contour I use the deepest shade from the Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit $45
Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer is soooooo yummy smelling! It has the perfect shade of warmth and makes me look sun-kissed. Using the deepest shade from the Smashbox kit for my contour is perfect. It is cool toned, unlike the Too Faced, so it creates that perfect cheek bone shadow making the contours of the cheekbone pop.

Highlight - The lightest shade from the Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit $45 and/or Mac Cosmetics Mineralize SkinFinish in "Soft & Gentle" $32
The highlight shade from the Smashbox kit is matte and beautiful! It gives a great highlight minus the shimmer. A definite daily go-to for me. MAC Soft & Gentle is my holy grail highlighter. It is gorgeous, shimmery, and gives the most angelic glow! So in love with this one from the day I touched it! I sweep this on the high points of my cheeks, bridge of the nose, cupid's bow, and then a little on my chin.

Blush - Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in "Warm Peach" or "Light Pink" $28 Occasionally I will also use Mac Cosmetics Mineralize SkinFinish in "Cheeky Bronze" $32  Also I use this Maybelline Limited Edition blush that is like an orange coral shade with shimmer. I wish it was still available because it is just soooooo beautiful!
Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes are amazing. They go on smooth, not too heavy, and blend amazingly! The MAC Cheeky Bronze is shimmering and bronzing all in one. Not a heavy bronzed look but just enough to give a little color with tons of sheen! When I wear this I usually skip the highlight for the tops of the cheekbones.

Lips - Lately I have been wearing many different shades of Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Color $2.29 or Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color $26
Wet n Wild MegaLast lipsticks are awesome and cheap! They can be a bit on the drier side so make sure to moisturize your lips well before putting them on. The shades I have dry down to a matte finish so I always apply lip balm underneath. Also you could use a clear lip gloss on top. The staying power isn't the most amazing but hey I can live with that for the price point. Bobbi Brown's Creamy Matte lipsticks are by far the #1 matte lipsticks I have ever used. Bobbi perfected the Matte lipstick! Creamy, glides on like a dream, and lasts for hours! She also comes out with limited edition ones with different collections so make sure to grab the one's you love when they're available. I have a few from a collection she had last summer and OMG they are still in my rotation these days.
